  • The Character Map

The Character Map is used to select characters that are not found on the keyboard. The Character Map can be reached two different ways. The first is by pressing F6 while in any input field. Any characters selected from the Character Map are returned and enter at the current cursor position. The second way to reach the Character Map is to click the small blue button on the Special Characters ribbon on every input screen. The map is then used to select up to eight characters to fill the ribbon. The characters on the ribbon are then immediately available for adding to input fields.

How to Select Characters

Double-clicking on any characters in the list, copies the character up to the Characters to Return field at the top. When selecting characters to place in an input field, you can choose as many as you want. For example, if you were enter the word Seρorνa you might enter Se in the field, press F6 and then double-click on the letters ρ, o, r, ν, and a. This would put the remainder of the word in the Characters to Return field. Clicking the Return Characters button returns the characters and finished it the word in the input field.

If you are filling the Special Characters ribbon, double-click on up to eight characters that you will be using the most. For example, α ι ν σ ϊ ρ.

  • Privacy Options

• Private Notes - Legacy has the ability to mark portions of your notes as Private. When you are editing notes you can add two opening brackets [[to start the marking of private notes that you do not want to be printed, or exported. At the end of the private notes you add two closing brackets]] and everything following the closing brackets becomes public notes again. You can also just use the two opening brackets [[and everything to the end of the note becomes private if there are no closing brackets.

Legacy has the option to print and export private notes. By default, Legacy always turns off private notes and you will have to turn them back on each time you export or print a report. This feature is part of all note fields including general notes, medical notes, research notes, marriage notes, event notes, picture notes, source description, and comments.

The Private Notes feature is available in both the Standard and Deluxe versions of Legacy Family Tree.

 • Private Individuals - Any individual in the family file can now be marked as Private. All reports now have the option to include or exclude these private persons. If cousin Harry tells you to keep his dearly departed wife's information off your web site and out of your reports, you can now easily do so.

For example, if you would like to be able to exclude a person from being included on reports and web pages, select the Private checkbox in the lower-right corner of his/her Information screen. All reports and web pages have an option to include or exclude Private individuals. Information for Private individuals is not exported to GEDCOM files by default, however there is a checkbox to include it if desired.

 • Private Event Definitions - You can now mark any Master Event Definition as Private so that they can be excluded from reports and web pages.

For example, in the Add or Edit Event Definition screen simple check the Private option in the lower right corner of the screen. When you mark a master event definition as Private, all use of the event is defaulted to Private and you must explicitly choose to include them on reports, exports and web pages.

The Private Individuals and Private Event Definition features are only available in Legacy Family Tree Deluxe Edition.  To order Legacy 5.0 Deluxe, please Click Here or phone (623) 444-8918 (toll-free within the US at (800) 753-3453).

  • The 1700 Census of Men in Denmark

The 1700 census of men in Denmark is not a well known document. It can be a key document for genealogists as the church records of Denmark often start in the late 1600s or early 1700s. This document can help genealogists better establish the earliest generation. Together with other documents of the 1600s, it can help genealogists extend a pedigree back beyond the earliest church records.

The following counties are online: Frederiksborg, Skanderborg, and Akaer (later part of Arhus County).
