Backup Failure Work-Arounds

Windows XP Users: Windows XP has the ability to make compressed (zipped) backups built right into it.

1. In Legacy click on File and select Open Family File.
2. With the RIGHT mouse button click once on the family file to backup.
3. From the popup menu select Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder.
4. A backup file is then created in the Data folder (or the folder where you keep your family file if different from Data.)
5. Because it is not a good idea to keep your backup copy on the same drive as your family file, you should move it to another drive or burn it to a CD.

To restore your family file from the backup copy, start Legacy and then click on File > Restore Family File and follow the prompts. Alternately Windows XP users can just double-click on the backup copy with the LEFT mouse button and follow the prompts.

Other Windows users: You can use any compression program that creates a zipped file to make a backup copy.  For example, WinZip is a common compression utility found on many computers. If you don't have WinZip already, you can download a free copy from www.WinZip.com.
