Tuesday’s Tip – Special Characters (Beginner)

TT - Special Characters

Tuesday's Tips provide brief how-to's to help you learn to use the Legacy Family Tree software with new tricks and techniques.

Special Characters (Beginner)

Legacy has a Special Characters toolbar that you can load up with up to eight of your favorite characters such as German umlauts or French accented characters. You will see the toolbar on any screen where you can type in information.

To use a letter on the bar you simply click the letter you need when typing. To change the characters on the toolbar to what you need, RIGHT click the bar and you will get the edit screen.

You can highlight and then delete the characters in the Characters to Return field at the top and then double click the characters you need at the bottom to add them. When you are done, click the Return Characters button.

I write in German a lot so I have the Windows shortcuts for those letters memorized so I don't need them on this bar. The characters I need are the 1/4 and 1/2 symbols which I need for land descriptions, the pound and Euro symbols for European money references, and the copyright and registered trademark symbols that I need to show copyrighted information as well as to write my CG® appropriately.

This is a another tool to streamline your writing and save you a little time.

Is there any plan to add the special characters for the Czech alphabet? I am not able to properly enter my Czech ancestors name in my family tree.
