Error 75 - Family History Center computers

There are several ways to work around the error 75 problem at FHCs. The person with Administrative rights can:

• Previous Versions of Legacy:


Upgrade to the current version of Legacy. Legacy's FamilySearch tools in previous versions are not being updated. Legacy's most recent FamilySearch tools available in the most current version of Legacy, will continue to be enhanced and made available only through Legacy's free updates.

• Install Legacy. Please visit http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/FHC.asp.
​​

The Administrator can try sharing the Legacy folder on the hard drive with users. Browse to the Legacy folder on the hard drive and right click on it. Select Properties > Sharing tab and set the folder to be shared, even if the pc is not on a network.


How to make Legacy work with non-administrator login like Patron


I. Give non-administrator users Full Control for Program Files (x86)>Legacy

  1. Login as Administrator

  2. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)

  3. Right-click Legacy

  4. Click Properties

  5. Click Security tab

  6. Click Edit

  7. Click Users(FHC…)

  8. Check box Full Control under Allow (also checks Modify and Write)

  9. Click Apply

Give Legacy Shortcut Admin rights

  1. Login as Patron (a non-administrator account)

  2. Right-click the shortcut icon for Legacy

  3. Click Properties

  4. Click Compatibility tab

  5. Check the box titled “Run this program as an administrator”

  6. Run Legacy and see that it runs without the Error 75
