Error loading type library/DLL

Updated this week

We do not know all the causes of the "Error loading type library/DLL" problem. It might occur if an antivirus has incorrectly marked a Legacy system file as being infected with a virus.

  • Restart your computer and try Legacy again. If it works, stop here.

  • Run your antivirus program to remove viruses and other threats from your computer.

  • Remove spyware from your computer. Spyware is a threat that many anti-virus applications usually do not cover.

  • Try temporarily disabling your antivirus program while using Legacy.

Please uninstall Legacy Family Tree completely. Please visit Uninstall - how to do a complete and totally clean removal of Legacy. Next re-install your Legacy program. Please visit https://legacyfamilytree.com/download-update and and download Legacy.

  • Try a Windows System Restore. For directions, please click this link: How do I do a Windows System Restore to undo changes to my computer? This may be a good option if you updated your Windows operating system or updated Legacy and then DLL error suddenly appeared.

  • Run the Microsoft Safety Scanner on your computer.
