Recently, the Godfrey Memorial Library announced that they will no longer provide access to HeritageQuest Online to their card holders. Dick Eastman wrote about it here.
Eastman also sponsors the online Encyclopedia of Genealogy. The entry for HeritageQuest Online explains that it contains:
- U.S. Federal Census records from 1790 through 1930.
- More than 25,000 fully searchable family and local history books.
- Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files
- PERSI (Periodical Source Index)
This collection is not available to individuals, but many institutions provide remote access, meaning, their patrons can access it through home with their library card. Researchers who signed up with Godfrey to gain access to this collection are a bit saddened by the recent news. However, the Encyclopedia of Genealogy contains a listing of some libraries and institutions that offer in-home access to the collection. To date, six institutions provide access to researchers nationwide.
