Hamburg Passenger Lists 1850-1934 now online

If you have ancestors who emigrated from central and eastern Europe during 1850 and 1934, the Hamburg Passenger Lists may contain important genealogical information for you. Nearly one-third of the people who emigrated from this area during this time period are included on these lists.

For some time the indexes and lists have been available through the Family History Library on 486 rolls of microfilm.

Ancestry recently announced that subscribers can now access every list, as well as a partial index covering the years 1890-1913.

I signed up for the 14 day free trial with ancestry.com, it was great, I debated for so long wish I’d done it sooner.

Ancestry is available free, with some restrictions on available datasets, at Family History Centres run by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You will need to call and book a computer. Number should be in your local Phone Directory.

Check with your local public library. Many of them offer free access to the library edition of Ancestry, though you must use the Ancestry databases at the library and not online, as well as online access to Heritage Quest for residents with a library card.

Not only is membership required, but it has to be the top band World Deluxe Membership (at least for those with UK & Ireland Records membership, anyway).

I was able to access the site however there were no records for Australia port of arrival.
It seems that they are mostly American ports. I find this a lot of times in searching Ancesty files.
Is there another site to search for Australia. I know for sure my family came to Australia from Hamburg.

Please put in the articles that you have to sign up for a 14 days free trail to see the information. I don’t want to go through all the hoops that Ancestry mades the customers go through for information.

It is really so sad that every record I need has to be paid for, or I have to go to a library to get. That negates the original intent of the internet ie. to freely exchange information
