The next section in the Customize Legacy menu is Options > Customize > 12.5 Message Boxes
This will be the last article in this series. I decided to do a separate post on this option because there are three pages of options when you click the Turn on or off Options Reminder Messages button. New users will have more of these options turned on and seasoned users will have less. If you are just starting out I recommend that you select every option and as you are getting the popups you can decide whether or not you want to keep that particular option. Most of the popups have a check box on them where you can disable that reminder without having to go back to this main options menu.
On these screens you will see what I have selected for myself. There are a couple of options that I want to point out though most are self-explanatory. It is important to go through all of these options and decide which reminders would be helpful to you. Ron (Technical Support Manager) created a short video showing how easy it is to turn these reminders on and off. You can watch it HERE.
Prompts/Reminders
You can see that I only have one thing selected on the Prompts/Reminders tab. That's because I have been using Legacy for so long that I don't need reminders. However, the one that I have turned on is VERY important. I could very easily forget to select a specific Tag to clear and accidentally tell Legacy to clear all Tags. That could be devastating because I use Tagging A LOT. I have stuff on 8 of the 9 Tags right now. Now I have to go through a confirmation dialog box which will keep me from making a big mistake.
Messages
I only have two turned on the Messages tab. I use the Potential Problems feature so I want to get a message if I enter something that is questionable. I would rather deal with it right then.
When adding a new Master Source it is easy to forget to scroll down to see all of the fields below especially when you are in a hurry. I like this reminder to make sure I don't miss anything.
At the bottom you have some choices on how you would like Legacy to present your files when you go to File > Open File. I am a Windows kinda girl so I am very comfortable using the Windows dialog box to navigate to where my files are. It will automatically open to the default location that I have set in Option 6.1 but I can easily open another folder. Some people prefer that Legacy compile a list of all of the family files on their computer no matter where they are. You also have the option to choose between the two methods every time you use File > Open File.
Questions
I only have one thing selected on the Questions tab. I could manually tell Legacy to use IntelliPass (AutoMerge) in the options menu of the Merge but this saves me a step because I will get a popup box asking me if I want to do an IntelliPass. Legacy has very strict rules when doing an AutoMerge and I am fine with it doing this. I want to run it anytime I am checking for duplicates.
That's the end of our series on the General Options. I hope this will help you get Legacy set up in a way that will work best for you and how you do your research.
