After Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941, thousands of Japanese and Japanese Americans were incarcerated in “Internment Camps.” German, Italians, and Latin Americans were also interned. The various sites of confinement and the records created will be examined, covering the period of time immediately preceding World War II through resettlement and redress.
About the presenter
Linda Harms Okazaki is a fourth-generation Californian, active in the genealogy and Japanese American communities in California and beyond. She is passionate about teaching people of all ages to research, document, and share their personal family history stories. Her research areas of interest include California, upstate New York, England, Australia, Japanese American incarceration, and the use of DNA in genealogy. A charter member of the Nikkei Genealogical Society, she is also a featured columnist for the Nichi Bei newspaper, where her column, Finding Your Nikkei Roots, is published bimonthly. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Genealogical Speaker’s Guild, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is a consultant for Densho and ancestryProGenealogists, and has presented at FGS, Jamboree, NYG&B, and SLIG. Ms. Okazaki holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and a Master of Arts degree in Education.
