A Few Thoughts About Windows Vista

I purchased a new computer this week and specified that it should have Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed at the factory. I was able to take the computer out of the box, boot up, and start using Vista within a few minutes. I had read quite a bit about Vista’s improvements and wanted to try them out for myself. Now that I have about eight hours’ use under my belt, I am ready to share my impressions.

I get the following message when trying to use the LEGACY HELP when using Windows VISTA
“Why can’t I get Help from this program?
The Help for this program was created in Windows Help format, which was used in previous versions of Windows and it is not supported in Windows Vista.
For more information, see Windows Help program (WinHlp32.exe) is no longer included with Windows on the Microsoft support website.”

After my PC died lat year, I switched to a MAC & installed Parallels with my old Windows 2000 so I could run Legacy. Easy install, no problems. Check the Parallels site parallels.com/en/support for their easy to follow install/config docs.

Thanks for highlighting Dick Eastman article – like Dick I am interested in Genealogy and Multimedia video photos etc. His conclusion was to look at MAC. I saw an October 2006 post that Legacy will only run on MAC under windows emulator – is that easy to run – does it perform as well as Legacy in Windows… Ron

Susan almost got my name right 🙂
I have tried Legacy on several versions of Vista both 32 & 64 bit and have not encountered any problems.
I am currently using Legacy on Vista x64 Home Premium. I have also tried a good deal of other genealogy related programs and found the majority to be OK though i did need to upgrade my versions on several of those packages.
